FEATHER TIPPED POISONOUS SPEARS Just a few strategically placed bamboo sticks with feathers glued on the ends will make your guests wonder if they're under attack from a neighboring tribe of headhunters! You can also sculpt tips for your spears and arrange them in groups of 2 or 3 in planters. You'll need:
Bamboo sticks 2-3' in length. (bamboo fencing is a
good place to get them from) although any old stick
or long wooden dowel will do.

Dyed feathers. I usually get a bag of them at my
favorite arts & crafts store but this year I found that
Sports Chalet in Burbank (or any major sporting
goods store) is a great source.
You can buy a bag of dyed turkeyfeathers for around
$5.00. I guess they're used formaking fishing lures.
The colors are great, they're the perfect length and
they hang beautifully. They're also very easy to work
 with.

 A hot glue gun.

 Twine or thin rope

If you want points on your
 spears you'll also need:

 sculpey (a sculpting
 material like clay that
 hardens when baked)

 acrylic paint.

JUST THE STICKS Separate the feathers. Each spear should have at least 8. Use two or more different colors for each. Now be CAREFUL as they don't call it HOT glue for nothing! Place a small dab of hot glue on one side of the end of the stick. Add a feather with the curve pointing away from the spear, they'll hang nicer. Add a small dab of hot glue and a feather to the opposite edge of the tip. Now the other two edges. Continue back and forth until you're satisfied with the amount. When done, lie the feathered end of the spear down over the edge of a table until the glue is dry. Take a good size length of twine and wrap it around the glued area of the feathers several times and tie with a strong knot. Trim the ends and secure the knot with a dab of hot glue. When placing them in bushes keep them up high and at an angle so they'll look like they were shot from a distance. SPEAR HEADS Sculpt an arrow head from sculpey with a generous base wrapping around the end of the stick. Keep the point blunt, you don't want to really spear anyone now, do you? Carefully remove the scupted arrow head from the stick making sure not to squeeze the base. You'll want to slip it back over the end of this stick when finished. Bake in the oven according to the directions on the package and let cool. Paint it up to look like carved stone. Make sure you use the same stick that you sculpted the spear head on and add a generous dab of hot glue to the tip. Slip your new arrowhead back over it. when dry, glue feathers around the arrow tipped end in the same manner as above and finish off with the twine.
